Welcome to the Thermal Energy Materials and Physics (TEMP) Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering in the Jacobs School of Engineering at UCSD.

We are a group of scientists and engineers interested in anything related to TEMPerature and thermal energy, including thermal transport, conversion, storage, and management across different length scales. In particular, we are working on developing nanostructured materials and devices for thermal to electrical energy conversion and studying fundamental transport physics of charge and heat carriers (electrons, phonons and photons) at micro and nano scale. We are also developing materials and systems for applications in solar-thermal energy conversion and thermal management. For more information in our research, please see our publications. We welcome highly motivated graduate and undergraduate students to join our group in conducting research in heat transfer and energy materials. For inquiries, please contact Prof. Renkun Chen via email.
